The Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI is a leading institution in applied research and development of innovative products and technologies, having a particular focus on innovative cell and gene therapies. Fraunhofer IZI develops, optimizes, and validates methods, materials, and products focusing on cell and gene therapies as well as drugs, diagnostics, and extracorporeal therapies. It specializes in cell biology and immunology along with process development and automation, focusing its research on oncology as well as immunological and neurodegenerative diseases. Equipped with modern state-of-the-art GLP and GMP facilities, Fraunhofer IZI provides expertise in manufacturing and quality control of advanced therapy medicinal products. Within the SaxoCell® cluster, Fraunhofer IZI and renowned academic and industry partners recently formed a unique initiative to strengthen the regional economy in Saxony, Germany comprising several R&D projects leading to novel cell and gene therapeutics and breakthrough technologies in the field.
